NOVAFIDELITY Support - HOW TO:
import existing digital music files to your X10, X12, X30 or X40

Below you will find step-by-step instructions on how to import existing digital music files

  1. using a USB hard-drive (easiest/least technically difficult option)

  2. over a network from a PC

  3. over a network from the X10, X12, X30 or X40

  4. over USB (X10 ONLY)

Note: It is not posisble to connect the X12, X30 or X40 directly to your PC via USB

1. Importing digital music files files using a USB Hard-drive

  • Transfer the music files onto a Memory Stick or external USB hard-drive
    • Tip: If you are importing lots of albums or tracks put them all in a folder to make things quicker and easier later on
  • Plug the Memory Stick/Hard-drive into the X10, X12, X30 or X40
  • Go BROWSER -> USB1
    • Tip: If multiple USB devices are connected it may appear as USB2 or USB3
  • Locate and highlight the Folder(s)/tracks you want to import
    • Tip: To highlight multiple tracks or albums use the right arrow key on the remote. If you want to import multiple albums put them all in a single folder and just highlight that one folder.
  • Press MENU on the remote
  • Choose IMPORT TO DB
  • Choose whether to MOVE or COPY the files
    • Tip: We recommend to Copy the files and then delete them from the memory stick once the process is complete if they are no longer required.
  • Choose whether to use the folder name as the album name
    • If you select No the X10, X12, X30 and X40 will take the album name from the tag info or meta-data.

Note: experiment with 1 or 2 albums first to familiarise yourself with the process before importing your entire collection

2. Importing digital music files over a network from a PC

  • Ensure that Samba Server is enabled on the X10, X12, X30 or X40 (you can find instructions on how to do this here)

On your PC...

  • Open My Computer and open the X10, X12, X30 or X40
    • You will see 2 folders - 'Music DB' and 'Local Storages'
  • Copy all of the music you want to import into the Local Storages folder on the X10, X12, X30 or X40
    •  Tip: To make things nice and easy create a new folder in local storages called Music Import and copy all of the music in there

On the X10, X12, X30, X40...

  • Go BROWSER -> HDD1
    • Tip: If multiple USB devices are connected it may appear as USB2 or USB3
  • Locate the Folder(s)/tracks you copied over
    • Tip: To highlight multiple tracks or albums use the right arrow key on the remote. If you want to import multiple albums put them all in a single folder and just highlight that one folder.
  • Press MENU on the remote
  • Choose IMPORT TO DB
  • Choose whether to MOVE or COPY the files
    • Tip: We recommend to choosing to Move the files otherwise you may run out of space on the internal hard-drive
  • Choose whether to use the folder name as the album name
    • If you select No the X10, X12, X30 and X40 will take the album name from the tag info or meta-data.

3. Import digital music files over a network from the X10, X12, X30 or X40

Then on the X10, X12, X30 or X40

  • Go BROWSER -> NET and select the Share that you want to import from
  • Locate the Folder(s)/tracks you want to import on the Share
    • Tip: To highlight multiple tracks or albums use the right arrow key on the remote. If you want to import multiple albums put them all in one folder just highlight that one folder.
  • Press MENU on the remote
  • Choose IMPORT TO DB
  • Choose whether to MOVE or COPY the files
    • Tip: We recommend to Copying the files as you can always delete them afterwards if they are no longer required in their original location
  • Choose whether to use the folder name as the album name
    • If you select No the X10, X12, X30 and X40 will take the album name from the tag info or meta-data.

2.2 Direct from your PC via USB cable (X10 only)

  • Turn the X10 on and plug it directly into your PC using the cable provided in the box - it will go into USB mode

On your PC...

  • In My Computer the X10 will appear as a local disk
  • Create a new folder called 'Music Import' in the same directory as the '.DB' and '.http' folders 
  • Copy the albums/tracks you wish to import the 'Music Import' folder
  • Disconnect the USB cable once the transfer is complete

On your X10...

  • Go BROWSER -> HDD1
  • Locate the folder you copied across
    • Tip: To highlight multiple tracks or albums use the right arrow key on the remote. If you want to import multiple albums put them all in a single folder and just highlight that one folder.
  • Press MENU on the remote
  • Choose IMPORT TO DB
  • Choose whether to MOVE or COPY the files
    • Tip: We recommend to choosing to Move the files otherwise you may run out of space on the internal hard-drive
  • Choose whether to use the folder name as the album name
    • If you select No the X10, X12, X30 and X40 will take the album name from the tag info or meta-data.
